Welcome to the Birmingham Sailing Club, a private club on Lake Logan Martin (an Alabama Power lake on the Coosa River) in central Alabama about 40 miles east of Birmingham, that is dedicated to:

  • Providing sailing programs for our members
  • Promoting sailing and sailboat racing among our members
  • Promoting water safety
  • Encouraging a harmonious, friendly atmosphere for social activities

Start of Sunday Race

About the Club

Located 10 miles south of Pell City, the club owns nine acres of land on Logan Martin Lake. The property is on the west side of the lake some two miles above Logan Martin Dam. At this site, the lake is approximately one mile wide and affords excellent sailing conditions.

The club house is located atop a knoll that furnishes a panoramic view of the lake and sailing area.

Club house facilities include a large central area with a fireplace, men's and women's dressing rooms, hot showers, kitchen and a large deck looking over the lake.

Waterfront facilities include paved launching ramps, and both fixed and floating docks. A fenced parking area provides dry slips for members boats. Wet slips are available for members who prefer leaving larger boats in the water.

In addition to sailing, the Club provides facilities for swimming in Logan Martin Lake, picnicking, camping, and a play ground for children.

    Commodore's Blurb

    Greetings Members!

We are excited about a long range renovation of the club house over the next several years. This will take place in several phases. Alex Krumdieck has assisted with the architectural aspect of this endeavor and Chris Scott (House) and Harry Reich (Acting Rear Commodore/Race Management) have played a big part in getting things rolling. There are several areas that need "refreshing". Key items are Kitchen, Bathrooms, Storage and Front Entry, but there are also other ideas we are looking into as well to enhance our club.
We have a beautiful new Pirate ship in the play area thanks to Adam Young (Grounds/Docks/Junior Sailing). With the help of several members (Richard Wade, Mike Schuster, Michael Papp) this was built in a weekend in time for this summer's junior sailing camp! It's so cool, I want one and my kids are grown!

    Welcome John Peacock

Welcome our newest associate member, John Peacock. John grew up attending sailing camps and sailing a Sunfish and is now interested in getting back into sailing. His three children, Zane, Audrey and Thad, recently attended BSC's Junior Camp. John lives in Birmingham and works for Vulcan Materials. Say hello to John when you see him at the club or, better yet, give him a call and get him to sail with you!

    Leukemia cup Schedule

    Hey BSC Sailors!

We're about 2 months out from the Leukemia Cup and I wanted to give you an update on some cool new stuff going on this year and update you on some of the cool same ol' same ol' stuff. I'm really excited about the ability for anybody to have their own fund raising page. Check out the BSC page at: You'll see Emily Bridges, Laura Graham and I are already signed up. (toss me a few bucks while checking out the site - I'm at $0.00 right now!) Also, check out the incentives for raising money on one of these pages: Just let me know if you want a page and I'll get you fixed up.

    Kind words...

    Commodore Sally Morriss,

Please accept the enclosed donation as a sincere "thank you" to your club for your help in rescuing Julia & I after capsizing our Raven last Saturday. Not only were your chase boats quick to pull us out of the cold water, but the entire race committee crew made sure we and the other capsized sailor were well taken care of.

When we left the club grounds to get some medical replacement for supplies lost overboard, we fully expect to return and join a righting crew to salvage the Raven. To our surprise, upon returning, we witnessed the Raven being towed to dock fully righted!

Your entire club's caring menbership and your well organized race committee make BSC a "must return" destination for us. I will highly recommend your regattas to other campaigning sailor and to my club, the Port Oliver Yacht Club.

Thanks again to BSC for your generous hospitality and professionalism!

    Bill Klarer & Julia Duck

    Franklin, KY
